If you think Shopify is expensive you’re probably not selling enough product to be successful anywhere else either.

It’s worth it for me. By making a new site you could mean a free template.. or a full custom build. Lots of options. It’s pretty easy to put a basic theme on there and sell stuff. And easy to customize it too.

Yes, definitely. Shopify currently is the best and reasonably cost option available in the market for the following reasons: 1. Price - Price is reasonable, I will not say cheap but yes, it is definitely reasonable 2. Development - There is a lot of support and developers available who can easily help you make customization of your shopify store within days 3. Apps - Shopify App marketplace has almost all the use cases covered required to sell products successfully. It may be Facebook Ads, PLA, Display. You can just install the app try it out and if you don't like delete the app. 4. Community - Shopify community is big and hence the support is available. Most of the new store owners problem is to figure out a solution for a given problem they face. Shopify has a helpful community and even shopify staff are helpful. So, they can at least direct you in the right direction. I hope it is helpful.

$29 a month is actually nothing ,you can save it from anywhere. But I guess you need a little bit higher investment to set up the web there and the updating. But still very affordable for small biz.

For most people $30 is not much but you are already paying $30 on Etsy Fees if your monthly sale amount is $600. For $30 you will have your own space to do what ever you want. You won’t have to run your business according to Etsy/Amazon/eBay “policy”. So is it worth $30?? For that reason YES. I am considering to change my Plan to Shopify Plus ($2,000/monthly) if I hit certain sales/month. For all e-commerce business our website/domain name is our real estate. This is what our value is if we decide to sell our business.

Shopify is simply a wysiwyg website builder with a ton of plugins, so is wordpress. It actually does not matter at all what you use to build your site. What matters is how it looks, how it converts and how you send traffic to it. I feel sorry that $30 is a lot for you it sounds like you have very low sales.

Is switching to Gatsby front-end for Shopify worth it? How is the dev support and integration? Can you still use Shopify apps?

A client is inquiring about me building a custom front-end using Gatsby for their existing Shopify site. I have a lot of experience with Gatsby, but none with Shopify. I see there's an official Gatsby plugin for sourcing data from Shopify, but does it work well? How hard is to make it a seamless experience for the user in terms of reflecting dynamic data from the backend? The client is particularly interested whether they'll still be able to use something called "Shopify Apps", giving examples like 'Wholesale Gorilla', 'Shipstation', 'Google Shopping Feed', 'Judgme Product Reviews', 'Reamaze Live chat', 'Klavyo Email Marketing & SMS', etc... Is data from these apps available through the Shopify API just like the core data? How about when sending data towards these Shopify Apps, how hard is it to integrate that functionality? I'd appreciate any insight...

Its worth because its easy to develop in and its blazingly fast but you might hit a lot of roadblocks that you'll need to engineer around. We used [https://github.com/gatsbyjs/gatsby-starter-shopify](https://github.com/gatsbyjs/gatsby-starter-shopify) and then customized because it gives you a pretty straight forward idea of how to arch a headless app against shopify's api's. Bulk source plugin is good but the builds take a while and in prod our dev's need to run a local build for hours to get the products. We tried standing up a build pipeline but the time/effort wasn't worth it. I dont believe data will be accessible from the app layer in shopify unless you communicate with those apps. We do something similar using a custom .Net web app that input/outputs to a shopify app we built. Its a lot to manage but we justified based on the use cases we needed to support. That being said i don't think the client will want to indefinitely maintain all this custom code/configuration.

Those apps mentioned are all „backend“ apps. They just provide functionality within the Shopify admin, so yes they will work. Naturally any app that would bring something to the frontend will not work anymore. Not sure what you are asking in the „reflecting dynamic data“ part, so I can‘t address that. Concerning the source plugin, in my experience this works really good, one thing you might want to dynamically get is the item availability. Build static productdetailpages with the availability is not gonna work if you don’t oversell stock. To rebuild gatsby on changes in the Shopify ui, you can use webhooks. This has worked reliably for me so far.

Here's something I overlooked when I first started working with Gatsby + Shopify: when someone decides to checkout and make a person, it reroutes you from yourDomain.com to [myshopify.yourDomain.com](https://myshopify.domain.com) to complete the purchase. That might be make or break for some people.

Highly recommend joining the Shopify developers Slack and getting people’s opinion there. I’d really caution against using Gatsby or other headless e-commerce frameworks to build a frontend for a Shopify merchant, especially a merchant on the smaller side, unless you’re very familiar with the Shopify App ecosystem. Some Shopify Apps don’t modify the store’s frontend, have API integrations, and as such they’ll work out of the box, but that is definitely, definitely not guaranteed - it depends a ton on the specific app, and it’s rare to have the data available via the Shopify API itself. You’ll almost definitely run into gnarly problems with integrating these apps. Usually merchants that are asking about this don’t quite understand the impact, so it’s very important to understand what their motivation is for using Gatsby specifically. In most cases, it’s more than enough to start with regular Shopify theme development and go from there. Good luck!

It's worth it, and the easiest way to do it is using sanity.io as the headless cmsq. Shopify has a one quick integration button for sanity. Ps sanity is really easy, it's all Json

If you want to start an actual business and use Shopify as your platform then yeah but if you’re asking about dropshipping then probably not. Still doable I think, but it’s very over saturated imo

Yes and no Shopify is a great platform can help you out a lot. It can be turned into a good passive way to run your ecommerce shop if that is your actual business or e-store that you'll put time and effort in as the creation of the shopify account in itself won't just create revenu No, as the dropshipping niche is still an available one, it is a hard one to break even in. The cost of Facebook add, insta add, and ads + shopify fee might make you in the negative or little positive However if you have a product you are sure will sell then why not. Also you can always take full advantage of the free trials with different mails account Also if you need tips and trick check out my youtube channel: ben vgb

Shopify is a tool to launch an online retail business. Launching and managing a business will be hard work, and for almost everyone successful will not be ‘passive’. So you can definitely make money with an online retail business, but there will be a lot of work in creating a product people want and acquiring the customers that want it.
